"A true artist knows how to draw on paper", "A professional only needs a simple pencil", "An eraser is for the weak"... Well, a challenge is a challenge. We all desperately want to be real. Seen. To feel alive.

Drawing is difficult when your whole life you have been suffocated by fear (of imperfection, inexperience, inadequacy). But I cannot not draw. Creativity is breathing, it is rhythm. The heart will stop if it stops beating.

2025-01-12 - John Dutton (Yellowstone)

All the angels are gone, son. There’s only devils left.

("So there are no angels, son. There are only devils left")

Portrait of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) from the series "Yellowstone". A strong and complex man, an ambiguous hero with his own truth, to whom you become deeply attached and begin to understand. A conservative, on whose side common sense and truth stand. A man who grew up on his own land and is trying to do everything so that at least something of it remains for his children... if that is even possible. But at least he will try.

Pencil, paper, color correction in Photoshop.

2025-05-04 - Vivian, Zenless Zone Zero

Portrait of the cute elf maid Vivian, who is obsessed with the main character and is ready to do ANYTHING for his/her attention.

She also has such a funny voice… high-pitched and at the same time sly and insinuating. A very funny character, I couldn't help but draw her (although I don't play ZZZ, my wife does).

And why are elves so cute...

Materials: paper, pen, pencils, some paints and markers.

2025-07-02 - Sad Girl

A quick emotional sketch in a slightly cartoonish style, very slightly inspired by “Arcane” (but it is only the hair color, almost like Jinx's, I swear). If it tells you anything - okay.
Being human in 2025 is hard.

Materials: Paper, pen, markers, colored pencils

2025-07-13 - Jack Black, Minecraft

The crazy, crazy Jack Black who simply CARRIED the entire movie with his energy and charisma. I don't even know who else could have so wholeheartedly acted like an idiot played in this circus. I knew the film was supposedly pretty good and that people for some reason loved it, but when I watched it, I understood why. It is a one-man theater performance, pure cubic magic of raised cunning eyebrows and tufts of graying beard.

“First we MINE, then we CRAFT, people!”

Materials: Paper, pen, markers, colored pencils

2025-11-07 - Disney Girl

I simply wanted to draw something beautiful. And not in my strange and undefined style, but in a recognizable one.

I specifically chose calm colors. And tried not to ruin it.
It seems my hand remembers something. I need to believe in myself more - and keep moving forward, draw with more detail, better, bolder… I can do this.

Materials: Paper, pen, markers, colored pencils

2025-11-26 - Rumi and Jinu from K-Pop Demon Hunters

You shouldn't draw without a pencil foundation. You just shouldn't. The proportions all got distorted.

Well, at least I had a good time sketching and coloring. I fell in love with this animated film immediately - a brilliant thing. K-Pop Demon Hunters, if anything.

I will have to draw a better portrait of Rumi and Jinu in the future, this one is really no good. I definitely won't publish it anywhere.

Materials: Paper, pen, markers, colored pencils

2026-01-03 - Sydney Sweeney

Sydney Sweeney. That says it all.

Actually, I don't have some kind of fixation on girls with model-like appearances or any special traits close to the generally accepted standard of beauty. I like - I truly like - something else. But I can appreciate classic beauty - and I do, very much.

And Sydney Sweeney… I consider her very talented and interesting. I saw her in “Euphoria” (an excellent role as a high school student in an abusive, self-destructive relationship), “Immaculate” (an innocent nun becomes involved in a Vatican cult of eugenicists trying to clone Jesus Christ and searching for a new Virgin Mary) and that very “Madame Web” (an amazingly laughable film about Spider-Man without Spider-Man, a legendary piece of nonsense with the star of “Fifty Shades of Grey”). I like the thought that right now there are so many different talented actors and actresses (and directors too, of course! Guillermo del Toro and Alex Garland, respect and admiration - del Toro especially, I won't forget Garland's “Men” anytime soon…), who are only beginning their careers and whom it is interesting to follow. I like Anya Taylor-Joy (she definitely needs to be drawn! amazingly beautiful wide-set eyes), Elle Fanning and Kim Go-eun - Sydney Sweeney, I think, after “Immaculate”, is on this list for me. (I also like the way she presents herself in life and in interviews - healthy, confident self-esteem and playing with the fact that she is noticed partly because of her cleavage. Well, good for her, she is noticed! It is… interesting when a woman seems not to mind being objectified. We don't mean harm… we are stupid men, monkeys with “neuron activation”, like in that biology textbook meme.)

(And the drawing seems to have turned out pretty good. A slow pace (two days), good lighting, clear references, neatness and a solid foundation. Also - now I scan all drawings instead of photographing them with a questionable phone. Up close, the new digital version looks even better than the original in real life. All this paper texture and the feeling of every single stroke… you begin to perceive your own drawings completely differently.)

Materials: Paper, classic pencils.

2026-01-05 - Frieren

Well, here we go, I got carried away drawing elves.

Frieren, “the one who sees people off on their final journey”… I love her, even though I only watched two episodes of the first season of the anime. Something about her image resonated very strongly with me.

Maybe it is the fact that she is both calm and vulnerable at the same time… she has lived so long that she stopped noticing little things like the years that have passed. She went on a journey with friends, saw them back home, returned fifty (!) years later - and there some had grown old, some had died completely… and she is like: “Oops. I guess I have been living wrong somehow. People are fragile… I need to appreciate fleeting moments.” And so she decides to start living differently. To cherish every moment with those whom she will one day lose.

Poor Frieren. I feel sorry for her. She has no choice but to accept that one day she will bury practically everyone she knows.

Elves are like that. Wisdom exists alongside sadness, acceptance, humility… STRENGTH. Inside, in the soul, not outside. Time flows outside like a river, while inside her there is peace and inner calm earned through decades, despite everything. And… the willingness to change despite her nature.

That is what resonates with me about her.

Materials: Paper, classic pencils, colored pencils, markers.

2026-01-14 - Frieren

Another thoughtful Frieren, this time full-body. I'm not sure the drawing really worked out, but I finished it despite the difficulties. It came out almost like an illustration. I will continue drawing her, she is… some kind of comforting character. No matter how silly that sounds.

Materials: Paper, classic pencils, colored pencils, markers.

2026-01-20 - Frieren

And this drawing actually seems to have turned out well.

I drew for a long time, carefully, with a foundation, corrected it many times. Tested expensive pencils in practice. Tried to draw something very beautiful and at the same time my own. To show a famous character through… some kind of personal lens. This drawing, although simple, even a little makes me feel proud. (You should be proud of your works, I'm not doing this just for fun. Every drawing comes with difficulty, pain - honestly, it is really true. If I considered myself a great artist, I would draw nonsense every day without critical reflection and silly worries… I would like to reach such a level of “graphomania”, both in drawing and in writing. This inner courage… I hope I develop it someday.)

Materials: Paper, classic pencils.

2026-01-29 - Crying Fluttershy, MLP FiM

An old drawing (from 2023), which was once just a simple ballpoint pen sketch: I drew it on the first page of a new sketchbook.

In 2026 I decided to finish the drawing no matter what (and in general, take the album with me and draw almost every day). It seems to have turned out pretty well; but I need to practice more.

And, of course, no more crap with ballpoint pens: only pencils, only confidence. I don't even know why I spent my whole life trying to draw only with a pen. Was I looking for a shortcut to perfection? Did I consider myself not good enough for “serious” pencil drawing experiments? Was I trying to imitate professionals? All those confident lines and clear colors in cartoons and comics... how much time I wasted.

And ponies... colorful little horses. I am much older now and my interests are noticeably different, but I am still grateful to this series and fandom for teaching me to look inside myself and feel something again. This cheerful, kind and unexpectedly deep animated series that reached a completely different target audience than it was intended for and left a noticeable mark on a world that had started cracking apart.

But we are still here and we are still alive.

Materials: Paper, ballpoint pen, markers, some colored pencils.

2026-02-05 - T-800, "Terminator 2"

Portrait of the T-800 from James Cameron's film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day".

I tried to draw a realistic portrait of a recognizable character and not rush. I drew for more than a week, counting breaks. Something seems to have come out. I could have drawn longer, but decided to stop so as not to ruin the drawing.

I need to keep practicing and draw more with pencils. Need to remember: pencils 2H-8H (Hard) are for light shadows and weak contours, 2B-8B (Bold) are for hard shadows and confident lines. HB is the middle option, but it... can be left unused most of the time, otherwise there will be a temptation to draw the entire picture with it. I think I will treat it like the gel pen I used to draw everything with before: it doesn't need to be used. Every purpose should have its own tool.

Materials: Paper, regular pencils.

2026-02-26 - Justice is a fantasy

For some reason I wanted to draw a friendly girl in a police uniform who (as it turned out) also has elf ears. Perhaps an honest police force that helps people instead of terrorizing them is just as much a fantasy as wise elves... at least let it be a beautiful picture.

The more I draw, the better the skill.

(I noticed about myself that drawing with regular pencils specifically on an inclined surface - that is, an easel - rather than on a table noticeably improves the drawing. I will keep learning.

And also: H for soft shadows, B for hard, dark ones. Iron rule. Well, Deepseek suggested that then... it changed everything completely.)

Materials: Paper, regular pencils.

2026-03-11 - Kim Go-eun

There she is. One of my favorite Korean actresses. Goblin, The King: Eternal Monarch, Exhuma - she is amazing. I especially like her smile - she smiles so sincerely and warmly in these dramas...

I drew for several days, trying to bring the drawing to perfection. Did it work? Not really. But I put my soul into it. I will try again later.

Materials: Paper, regular pencils.

P.S. "I would upload a photo of the actress to check the resemblance or better draw Marilyn Monroe" - go to hell.

2026-04-03 - Kim Go-eun

The second portrait of my favorite actress. Yes, perhaps it is still not as good as I would like... but damn, I am trying. It is difficult. Painful. I don't even see the result the way I would like to. And I cannot achieve it in the form I would want... but I am trying.

And I will keep trying. No matter what.

I need to keep drawing.

Materials: Paper, regular pencils.

2026-04-13 - Jisoo

Her. The cute girl from "A Man Who Wants to Be Signed" with huge eyes and an innocent look even in the most cringe situations. I really liked this drama and couldn't help but draw Jisoo. It seems that now she is my favorite performer from the group "Blackpink". Seriously, she is so... beautiful, elegant and cute at the same time. And there is something simple about her...

I still don't draw very well, but if I believe Qwen and don't stop - who knows, maybe in a year something worthwhile will really come out. Or in two. The main thing is not to stop and keep drawing, no matter what... even my inner critic. Which is very loud.

Materials: Paper, regular pencils.
