Shin Ha-ri is a young and promising employee in the food engineering team of a large food company. One day, her slightly more successful friend Jin Yoon-so, with whom she has been through a lot, asks Ha-ri for a favour: to go on a blind date organised by her father in her place and to properly reject the suitor. The girl agrees and decides to pull out all the stops, confident that such a clingy and uninhibited Seoul beauty as the fake ‘Yoon-So’ will surely scare off the strange young man.

But her efforts lead to the opposite result, and then it turns out that the person opposite her was Kang Tae-moo, the director of her own company.

And worst of all, it seems he has fallen in love with her.

It's very light-hearted. Cheerful, dynamic, predictable to the extreme, but lively. A comedy of situations where everything seems predictable, but the characters and roles are so well chosen that the actors carry even a very schematic (albeit self-deprecating) script. And all the clichés that are mandatory for a drama, from awkward falls into each other's arms to the accompaniment of a beautiful song to the always tragic visit to the hospital, are twisted to the max, but at the same time they are not annoying (although they could be, in such quantities!).

The lead actress, Kim Sae-jung, is a revelation. She perfectly plays the role of a ‘smart and beautiful girl in a stupid and ugly situation.’ Shin Ha-ri is not just some funny simpleton — no, she is a smart, attentive, reserved and collected girl who knows the value of her efforts at work, but at the same time is wildly insecure about herself and what others will think.

The fear of public condemnation in patriarchal and traditional Korean society, where public criticism and parental discontent hit everyone hard, from the rich to the poor, is one of the main drivers of the plot (and almost all of the funny situations). "What will people think? What if they see us? How will we explain all this?.." The characters frantically try to fix everything, considering the possible reactions of all parties, but only make things worse. And this is almost always funny and interesting to watch.

The drama of escalation — we love it when things don't go according to plan and the characters are thrown out of their comfort zone. Only then can they grow within the story. Both Tae-moon and Ha-ri grow.

By the way, I liked her friend, Yoon-so, almost more than the title character. She is lively, artistic, intelligent, independent, and honest. Her storyline was a little formulaic, but strong, especially at the end. Which was (again) predictable, but at the same time satisfying and happy for everyone who made it there. (I am deliberately writing in a veiled manner, quoting the series, ‘we're not in a cheap drama!’)

Speaking of the characters, one cannot fail to mention the main culprit of the chaos: a capricious old grandfather with a luxurious head of hair and eyebrows like Brezhnev's. Chairman Kang, who voluntarily-compulsorily terrorised his younger son with visits under the pretext of ‘I want a grandchild, period!’ is fine. As are his own grandchildren, both biological and adopted.

Let's start with the biological ones. Kang Tae-moo (girls, hold on tight) is a mysterious young handsome man with a vague past at the head of a large company. At first, he seems too reserved, aloof, arrogant, and elitist, but his relationship with Shin Ha-ri forces him to open up and see the trauma he has been trying to ignore. The scene where he admits his own pain towards the end is one of the most powerful in the series, which becomes unusually deep and serious for a moment. It is a true coming of age from a rich nouveau riche with an endless credit card to a vulnerable person who was finally able to open up to a kindred spirit and understand how important it is to value her closeness and trust. And after that, he becomes truly capable of helping Ha-ri begin to fight her own demons, become braver, and not be afraid of real feelings. No matter how strong they may be.

Speaking of Tae-moo, one cannot fail to mention his loyal secretary (if not squire) named Cha Seong-hoon, who is also very good. Some viewers may even like him more than his boss. A modest guy with glasses and a powerful jaw, loyal and reliable, with the kindest eyes and a strong sense of tact. His character is not as complex as Tae-moo's, but his arc also has considerable weight and importance for the plot, and he will have plenty of opportunities to prove himself.

Something I appreciated too late, but cannot fail to mention: the music. It is very beautiful, especially in the emotional moments; real instrumental parts with strings, bells and piano. Surprisingly well written!

The production is high quality, with editing, colour correction and lighting all up to standard. (By the way, Korean series are always so well lit that you don't miss a single glance or movement of the actors. This works for immersion, even if it's not 100% cinematic... on the other hand, there is an opinion that in big cinema, the profession of lighting technician has almost died out due to the transition to digital, so, in my opinion, Korean television's technique of brightly lighting the actors is better than the conventional battle at Winterfell in Game of Thrones, where you can't see what's going on at all in the light of torches and candles.)

As for the drawbacks, I'll be honest, there isn't as much depth here as there could be. But that's a limitation of the genre — after all, it's closer to the legendary drama ‘True Beauty’ with the inimitable Moon Ga-young (if you haven't seen it, be sure to watch it! You'll fall in love instantly), than ‘I'm Crazy, But That's Okay’ or even ‘Eva’. ‘Business Proposal’ is a romantic comedy of situations with awkward moments, running around, hide-and-seek, lies and their consequences, but it also has reflection, growing up, and accepting the vulnerability and flaws of real people... In the end, behind the familiar ‘And they lived happily ever after’ lies a story about two (or four... or six!) lonely souls who found each other despite everything.

This implies that everything will be fine in their world.
(Even if it is within the framework of a beautiful and down-to-earth fairy tale about a prince from a penthouse and a commoner from the tenth floor of a tall corporate tower.)

Rating: 7.2/10, funny and romantic. A genre piece, beautiful girls and boys, love conquers all, viewers wipe away a tear. The main characters (actresses Kim Sae-jung and Sol In-ah) are incredibly charming. If you have only recently discovered the enchanting world of Korean dramas, go ahead and watch it; the high ratings on aggregators will not disappoint you.

Шин Ха Ри - молодая и перспективная работница в команде пищевых инженеров крупной продуктовой компании. Однажды ее чуть более успешная подруга Джин Юн-Со, с которой они прошли очень многое, просит Ха Ри об одолжении - пойти вместо нее на свидание вслепую, которое организовал ее отец, и как следует отшить кавалера. Девушка соглашается и решает бить из всех орудий, уверенная, что от такой прилипчивой и раскованной сеульской красавицы, как фальшивая “Юн-Со”, странный молодой человек точно сбежит.

Но ее усилия приводят к противоположному результату, а потом выясняется, что напротив нее был сам Кан Тэ Му, директор ее собственной компании.

И хуже всего - кажется, он в нее влюбился.

Очень лёгкая штука. Веселая, динамичная, предсказуемая донельзя, - но живая. Комедия положений, где вроде все читается наперед, но типажи и роли подобраны настолько замечательно, что актеры вывозят даже совсем схематичный (пусть и пытающийся быть само-ироничным) сценарий. И все обязательные для дорамы штампы, от неловких падений в объятия под красивую песню до всегда трагичного посещения больнички, - выкручены на сто, но при этом не раздражают (хотя могли бы, в таких-то количествах!).

Актриса главной роли, Ким Сэ Джон, просто открытие. Она идеально отыгрывает ситуацию, которую можно назвать “Умная и красивая девушка в неумной и некрасивой ситуации”. Шин Ха Ри ведь не просто какая-то смешная простушка, - нет, она умная, внимательная, сдержанная и собранная девушка, знающая цену своим усилиям на работе, но при этом дико неуверенная в себе и в том, что подумают другие.

Страх общественного осуждения в патриархальном и традиционном корейском обществе, где публичное порицание и недовольство родителей очень сильно бьет по всем, от богачей до бедняков, - вообще один из главных двигателей сюжета (и почти всех забавных ситуаций). “Что подумают люди? А вдруг нас увидят? А как мы все это объясним?..” Герои лихорадочно пытаются все исправить, учитывая возможную реакцию всех сторон, - но делают только хуже. И за этим почти всегда смешно и интересно наблюдать.

Драматургия эскалации - мы любим, когда все идет не по плану и героев выбрасывает из зоны комфорта. Только так они могут расти в пределах истории. Растут и Тэ Мун, и Ха Ри.

Кстати, ее подруга, Юн-Со, понравилась едва ли не больше титульной героини. Она живая, артистичная, неглупая, самостоятельная, честная. Ее линия была немного схематичной, но сильной, особенно в конце. Который был (опять-таки) предсказуемым, но вместе с тем удовлетворительным и счастливым для всех, кто до него добрался. (Специально пишу завуалированно, - цитируя сериал, “мы же не в дешевой дораме!”)

Говоря о персонажах, нельзя не отметить главного виновника хаоса: капризного старого деда с шикарной шевелюрой и бровями как у Брежнева. Председатель Кан, устроивший своему младшему добровольно-принудительный террор свиданками поневоле под предлогом “хочу карапуза и точка!” - хорош. Как и его собственные внуки - что родной, что названый.

Начнем с родного. Кан Тэ Му (девочки, держитесь) - таинственный молодой красавчик с туманным прошлым во главе большой компании. Он поначалу кажется слишком сдержанным, отстраненным, высокомерным и элитарным, но отношения с Шин Ха Ри заставляют его открыть в себе человечность и увидеть травмы, которые он старался не замечать. Сцена его признания собственной боли ближе к концу - одна из самых сильных в сериале, который на время становится непривычно глубоким и серьезным. Это настоящее взросление из богатенького нувориша с бесконечной кредиткой в уязвимого человека, который наконец смог открыться родной душе и понял, как важно ценить ее близость и доверие. И после этого он становится по-настоящему способным помочь Ха Ри начать бороться с ее собственными демонами, стать смелее и не бояться настоящих чувств. Какими бы сильными они ни были.

Говоря от Тэ Му, нельзя не отметить его верного секретаря (если не оруженосца) по имени Ча Сон Хун,- он тоже очень неплох. Кому-то из зрителей он может даже понравиться больше своего начальника. Скромный парень в очках и с мощной челюстью, верный и безотказный, с добрейшими глазами и сильным чувством такта. Его характер не настолько сложный, как у Тэ Му, но у его арки тоже значительный вес и важность для сюжета, и ему будет чем себя проявить.

Что-то, что я оценил слишком поздно, но не могу не отметить: музыка. Она очень красивая, особенно в чувственных моментах; настоящие инструментальные партии со струнными, колокольчиковыми и фортепиано. На удивление здорово написано!

Постановка - качественная, монтаж, цветокоррекция и освещение - вполне на уровне. (Кстати, корейские сериалы всегда так хорошо освещены, - ни один взгляд или движение актера не пропустишь. Это работает на погружение, пусть и не стопроцентно кинематографично… с другой стороны, есть мнение, что в большом кино профессия осветителя почти умерла из-за перехода на цифру, так что, на мой взгляд, лучше корейская телевизионная техника яркого освещения действующих лиц, чем условная битва на Винтерфелл в “Игре Престолов”, где в свете факелов и свечей ты вообще не видишь, что происходит.)

Из недостатков, - скажу прямо, глубины здесь не так много, как могло бы быть. Но это ограничение жанра, - все-таки это ближе к легендарной дораме “Истинная Красота” с неподражаемой Мун Га-Ён (если не видели, обязательно посмотрите! Влюбитесь моментально), чем “Я - псих, но это нормально” или даже “Ева”. “Деловое предложение” - это романтическая комедия положений с неловкими ситуациями, беготнёй, прятками, ложью и ее последствиями, но также в ней есть и рефлексия, и взросление, и принятие уязвимости с недостатками живых людей… в конце концов за привычным “И жили они долго и счастливо” скрывается история о двух (или четырех… или шести!) одиноких душах, которые все же нашли друг друга, несмотря ни на что.

А значит, в их мире всё будет хорошо.
(Пусть и в рамках красивой и приземленной сказки о принце из пентхауса и простолюдинке с десятого этажа высокой корпоративной башни.)

Оценка: 7.2/10, забавно и романтично. Жанровая штука, красивые девочки-мальчики, любовь побеждает, зрители смахивают слезу. Главные героини (актрисы Ким Сэ Джон и Соль Ина)- невероятно очаровательные. Если вы только недавно открыли для себя чарующий мир корейских дорам - смело смотрите, высокие рейтинги агрегаторов вас не обманут.
