D.VA, Angel and Tracer (Overwatch)

Published on

I have long wanted to draw someone else from the heroes of the cute online post-shoot Overwatch (after Mei and the less successful healer Mercy), and in color and close enough to the style of play. It was difficult to choose one of them, so I complicated my task and chose three at once.

The most difficult thing was to convey the sufficiently detailed and high-tech costumes of the heroes, to achieve similarities, to convey the texture of materials and "expose the light". The latter is the most interesting process: it turns out that shadows are much easier to draw when there is an adjustment layer (dark "Levels") with an inverted vector mask and the "Overlay color" (or gradient) effect in multiplication mode, and the whole thing is additionally processed by a regular erase with the edges of the object - in this way, you can simultaneously draw a base for both the shadow and the highlight, so that later on on other layers you can paint / improve them as you like. The scheme from this drawing still works (it may be a little redundant, but psychologically it is easier for me to first make good line art, work out the comic-looking outlines - and only then do the painting), and the technique with a vector mask speeds up the work.

This is what the simplified breakdown of this figure looks like:

Any idea which character from this game to take for the next drawing? Share them in the comments!

And more - if you yourself play Overwatch, add as friends, my wife and I will be glad to have a good company.
